A story in the name
The first season of settling into our property was one of quiet observation. When we saw the clouds of familiar white blossoms erupt, we knew this place was something special. Saskatoons, also known as juneberries or serviceberries, clustered in abundance neatly on the hillside. Already knowing we had a plan for this place, we felt it was our duty to call recognition to their presence, and emerged our urban farm, Saskat Ridge. The name meant so much to us that it has taken on the added identity of our garden work.
Saskatoon comes from the Cree word misaskwatomina, and it is with great respect that we acknowledge the Anishinaabe land that we grow on.
Our approach and values
Every decision we make is shaped by a clear sense of purpose and the beliefs that nutritious food is not a luxury and communities are more resilient when gardening is more widely practiced. The soil we work with that we demand so much from and the ecosystems we’re engaging with deserve just as much care and thought for longevity. We will work synergistically with your land to establish a garden space that respects the natural world around you.
Your support helps the community
Your business support helps us show up in the community in places like the community garden and for neighbors in need to donate plants, share education, and create designs to help support production goals. If you wish to sponsor a garden or education, reach out about any opportunities you can sponsor.
